cool!

most of the time, as you all know, i'm really frustrated by work...richie has advised me not to say why on this blog, so i will not elaborate any further.

today, though, was one of the days where it actually seemed worth it! one of our long-time users, who is just a really nice guy, arrived today. he's extremely gregarious and fun to chat with, and he's known for providing chocolate chip cookies for all the staff whenever he comes to do research.

a year or so ago, i was talking to him over lunch and somehow basketball came up - it turns out he played in high school (and maybe college?) and he grew up playing pickup in New York. (currently, he's a professor at the university of texas at el paso, so i mentioned that my all-time favorite player went to utep, and he asked who my favorite player was. when i told him tim hardaway, he said, "oh timmy! of course i know timmy!" he had actually had him in one of his classes!)

anyway, so today he shows up at work and when i went over to say hi, he handed me a #14 texas western basketball jersey! bobby joe hill wore #14 and was a star guard on the 1966 texas western (now utep) team that the movie glory road was based on. it's a little big (he said it was the smallest one he could find), but hopefully i'll be able to wear it!

that just made my day! :)
